LEROY —  July is prime time for summer football camps.

Pine River took advantage of this with a two-day camp at its practice field last week.

The camps drew 36 football players of all high school age groups.

“The first day was our defensive fundamentals while (the second day) will be our offensive fundamentals,” Pine River coach Terry Martin said during the camps.

Each session was scheduled to be two hours.

“The first day was good,” Martin said. “We changed some things up defensively, especially coverage wise. We had some good time working on that. (The second day) is the same offense but we’ll get some reps and get everybody into that.”

The Bucks continue to have a lot of things going on this month along with weight-lifting and conditioning. They will have training sessions throughout this week along with passing camps at Cadillac on Tuesday. A team camp is set for July 22-24. The first day of practices is Aug. 6. The season opener is home on Aug. 24 with Kalkaska.
