LEROY — Cayman Gatt is hoping that girls basketball season for her Pine River team will last as long as possible.

But when it’s done, Gatt will be focusing on softball season at Pine River. Then it’s off to a softball career at Davenport University.

Last week, Gatt signed her national letter to attend Davenport and play softball.

Gatt said she visited Davenport in November and the decision to play there eventually was made.

“I talked to the coach and went down there to practice in January,” Gatt said.

Gatt has usually played shortstop at Pine River. She played middle infield for Davenport at her tryout.

Gatt started at shortstop since her sophomore season. Gatt indicated she’ll have options for various positions at Davenport.

“It’s exciting,” she said. “I’ve always wanted but didn’t know where.”

Gatt is a three-sport athlete at Pine River and said her focus was mainly on a college career in softball

When she plays football this spring Gatt indicated she will work on all aspects of her game. She added that she would play with a Mount Pleasant Drillers summer team.

Gatt will join Davenport for its fall season in September.
