Pine River senior set to be key pitcher for Bucks

LEROY — Dana Hill expects to be a contributor as a pitcher for Pine River’s softball team this season.

This marks Hill’s second varsity season.

“I definitely improved a lot as I went through the season,” she said. “It was fun. I just enjoyed it all.”

Hill smiled while reflecting on taking line drives off her body while pitching, but being able to get through it.

She worked a lot on softball during the summer and is confident that extra work will pay off this spring.

“I think I’m better,” Hill, a senior, said. “I’m better at hitting my spots. We haven’t had too many games yet.”

The Bucks got in some games with Big Rapids Crossroads Charter Academy and Grant prior to the spring break. Hill was able to pitch a full game. She’ll be batting some times, but her main role is pitching. Using the fastball to hit corners is a strength.

As for her consistency, “I think I need to work on it more but I do OK,” Hill said.

The Bucks were scheduled to play Lake City at home on Tuesday. They’re also scheduled to play at Orchard View on Friday and at Big Rapids on April 20.

“With a little of work, we’ll be strong,” Hill said. “I feel like we’re going to hit a lot. Hitting definitely (is a strength). We’ll get more runs than other (teams).”
