LEROY — Tyler McCurry was disappointed that one trip to the state tournament was too brief.

He’s looking to have a longer stay this time.

McCurry and the Bucks lost in the team tournament last Friday 34-33 on criteria to Manchester.

This weekend at the Palace of Auburn Hills, McCurry and 10 of his teammates will be in the individual state finals.

The team came very close to advancing to the team state semifinals.

“When it came down to it, they had more criteria than we did,” McCurry said. “That’s the way it goes sometimes. We gave it all we had.”

McCurry won the regional title at 189 pounds on Feb. 21 and is looking for a top-eight finish in the state finals. He lost in the blood round at state finals before, but said having been there in the past will help this time.

“This week’s practices will really help us out,” he said. “We’ll be focused and not distracted.”

Takedowns have been among his best moves, McCurry noted.

Being at the state finals “was a blast, definitely a blast,” McCurry said.
