LEROY -- Pine River’s volleyball team is off to a strong start and Mariah Holmes is hoping to help the Bucks keep things rolling in the right direction.

Holmes is in her senior season for the Bucks.

“So we’ve been doing pretty well,” she said. “We’ve won most of our games and have done well at tournaments.”

The Bucks have taken second place at two tournaments and third at one so far this season.

It’s Holmes’ second varsity season and she’s playing a right side hitter.

“I’ve improved quite a bit,” Holmes said. “I’ve started hitting a lot harder.”

She’s working on improving her serve receive “and getting the ball to the setter every time.”

Holmes is hoping the Bucks can take aim at the conference title.

“We have to come out strong and work as a team,” she said.
