Pine River senior reflects on recently completed volleyball season

LREOY — When Pine River’s volleyball season ended recently, several seniors said goodbye to the program, including defensive specialist Livy Vanderhoof, who was among the Bucks’ key players.

This marked the second year of volleyball for Vanderhoof. The season ended in a 3-0 loss to eventual district champion Morley Stanwood during the postseason.

“We played with a lot of intensity,” Vanderhoof said. “We started off kind of slow, then we did a good job of picking ourselves up. We played with a lot of heart and with a lot of intensity that we struggled (with) throughout the season. I’m glad with that. We made a lot of progress.”

Highlights included the team’s performance during the Highland Conference tournament.

“We played with so much intensity and so much heart,” Vanderhoof recalled. “Ultimately, that’s what we remembered.”

Vanderhoof played back row for the Bucks.

“I think I improved a lot,” she said. “I became more vocal and was pumping up my teammates.”

Vanderhoof focused on passing and serving for the Bucks. She felt she had a strong serving season, especially when it came to “spotting it.”

She focused only on volleyball this season and the match against Morley Stanwood marked the end of her high school career.
