LEROY —  Lucas Harris has been performing extremely well for Pine River’s boys basketball team in recent games, frequently leading the team in scoring.

One of the games he won’t soon forget was a big 71-58 nonleague victory over Reed City. Harris scored 17 points in leading the Pine River offense.

“It was nice having shots go in,” Harris said. “It was good.”

The Bucks have had some nice non-league wins including over Lakeview and Reed City. The victory over Lakeview was against an 8-0 team going into the game.

Those are non-league games but still important in giving the Bucks some momentum as they head for the homestretch of their schedule.

“Those are good pickups for our season this year and will help us coming down the stretch in the tournament,” Harris said.

Focusing on rebounding is the key for the Bucks in upcoming games, he added.

“We’re a little team and we need to crash the boards hard,” Harris said.

Harris, a senior, indicated his role in his third varsity season for the Bucks is about the same.

“I’m a little more of a leader now,” he said.

The Bucks have two losses to Manton and entered this week with three Highland Conference setbacks. The third league loss was to McBain, a team that will host the Bucks on Friday. Pine River has a home game Tuesday against Marion.
