Pine River senior eyes another bid to state finals

LEROY  — Nathan Park had a strong season as a junior and is looking forward to even more as a senior.

His brother Andrew also is on the team.

Nathan has been on the varsity three previous seasons. He went to the state final last season but didn’t place. It was his first time making it that far. He was at 103 last year.

“I’m a wee bit heavier this year,” he said. “I’m wrestling at 125 for the team and probably 119 for individuals. I think I’ll do just fine. I think you have to be stronger and techniques are important.”

Park hopes to make it again to the state final and place this time.

“I’m hoping for us as a team, also, to do well at state,” he said.

Park said bottom work is a strength.

“I’m good at standing up,” he said. “I’m good at shots. I’m decent at singles and doubles.”

Park wants to improve on his top moves and turning people for points.

“On bottom, I need to keep my knees away from my head for cradles,” he said.

Pine River is at Forest Area on Wednesday.
