LEROY — Pine River’s winning streak for girls basketball is at 11 games and senior Jandney Mattson wouldn’t be surprised if it continued for awhile.

The Bucks’ most recent win was 46-31 lass Friday over McBain.

“We played really well, both teams did,” Mattson said. “The first quarter was pretty close. It was tied. At halftime, we were up and we just took it from there and kept working as a team. We did really good.”

Mattson is in her second varsity season.

“I’ve improved a lot,” she said. “Last year when I went out and played, I was scared and I didn’t have the confidence. This year, I feel I have more confidence playing and everything like that.”

Mattson occasionally sees starting appearances for the Bucks at guard, both point and wing.

“I’m there to do a little bit of everything,” she said. “I try to score as often as I can and do the best I can defense. I’m still working on my shot now to get that on so I can start making more. I try to get my outside shots to go in. I try to drive to the bucket once in awhile. It depends on what the other team’s defense is.”

Team togetherness and communication has keyed the team’s winning streak.

”We’ve worked on our defense as a team and our offense is coming along too,” Mattson said. “Rebounding, and defense, working on that like getting to the right spot on time.”
