LEROY — Pine River’s wrestling team was second to Chippewa Hills at the Alma Tournament on Saturday.
The Bucks are now 13-2 and ranked No. 3 in the state for Division 4.
The Bucks defeated Alma 42-31 to open action on Saturday. The Bucks then defeated St. Louis 42-26. They faced Carson City-Crystal and won 38-28. CC-Crystal is ranked ninth in the state.
Chippewa Hills prevailed over the Bucks in the final 51-12.
“We just can’t seem to knock them off,” Pine River coach Tim Jones said.
Chippewa Hills is ranked No. 3 in Division 3 and is the defending state runner-up.
Andy Park was 4-0, Brian McCurry 3-0, and Justin Cole and Joe Rigling were both 3-1.
“We knew it was going to be tough with Chip Hills,” Jones said. “They’re just tough all the way through their lineup. We were hoping to make it a closer match. It was a good match to see where we stand and where we need to improve on to face a team of that caliber. St. Louis and Carson City are two good Division 4 teams.
“Andy Park has been solid for us,” Jones said. “Bryan McCurry went through a slump, but is back on track.”
Last Wednesday, Pine River beat Lake City 69-12 in dual action.
Pine River is at Benzie Central on Wednesday and is at Forest Hills Eastern on Saturday.
