Reed City at Manistee

MANISTEE — Reed City was at the Chris Grabowski Memorial Invite at Manistee. For the boys, Brandon Wirth (17:10.89) finished first overall, Calvin Rohde (18:03.62) second, Noah Blythe (18:44.01) sixth, Jared Karns (20:02.38) 33rd, and Ryan Simmons 68th (21:19.16).  The boys team finished second overall out of 12 teams.

For the girls, Abbi Kiaunis (21:19.28) finished second, Paige Lofquist (22:49.63) 11th, Leigha Johnson 22nd (23:25.12), Abbie Johnson (23:45.71) 32nd and Brooke Miller 33rd (23:45.71). The girls team finished fourth out of 12 teams.

“It was pretty cold and very windy,” Reed City coach Richard Saladin said. “It was tough conditions to run in with 20 mph winds. I thought our kids ran well and really competed.  They all ran faster times than last year, so we like to see that improvement. Brandon was a good minute in front and Calvin was about 20 seconds in front of third, so it’s hard to push yourself but they did well.

“The top 35 in each race received a medal so we took home four for the boys and five for the girls.  We also earned a runner-up trophy for the boys. We had six season records too. We run next at Grant on Tuesday for the last CSAA meet. The season’s winding down and we are gearing up for regionals on the 27th. These kids have come a long way and they keep working hard.”
