Pine River runners off to strong start

LEROY — Ben Rigling and Alyssa Geer will be key runners for the Pine River cross country team this season.

Rigling in his first four races had a highlighted performance at Benzie Central. with a run in the low 17s. Last year, he ran a 17:46 for his previous best.

A junior, Rigling is in his third season of cross. He’s hoping to get his best time as low as possible.

He’s happy to have gotten his career PR this early in the season.

“We’re improving,” Ringling said, adding that while Evart will be tough in the Highland, “you have to watch Beal City and McBain.”

Geer is a sophomore for the Bucks girls team.

Last season, she had a 23:49 as a personal record and she was contented with her season. Her goal by the end of this season is to beat last year’s PR. She’s usually been around No. 4 for the Pine River girls and has improved from last year.

“My first mile is the strongest,” said Geer looking to improve on her last mile. Geer is hoping to help the Bucks be very competitive in the Highland.

“We lost some runners (from last year) but have some new ones,” Geer said, adding that Beal City will be tough in the conference.
