LEROY — Tony Moore was in his senior cross country season for Pine River and was determined to make it his best.

Moore was in his third cross country campaign.

“Last year, I improved a lot from my first year,” he said. “I was one of the top five runners and helping to give points to my team.”

The key for the improvement, Moore indicated, was having his teammates “push him and helping him to get better.”

Entering this season, his best time has been a 17:53 that he recorded last season.

“I’ve been pretty consistent,” Moore said. “I haven’t improved much. I just got over being sick. I didn’t train as much (offseason) as I’d like to, but I got a little in.”

Before the season ends, Moore wanted to get at 17:35 and “help our team win races. I need to put more miles in and push myself.

“I start pretty strong in my one-mile but after that (it’s not as strong). I’m trying to work up my endurance.”

The season ended for Moore at the Division 3 regional. He was 36th in 18:57.

He’s also been a strong wrestler for Pine River. He noted that he started cross country “at first to stay in shape for my other sports. As I got more competitive, I wanted to get better.”
