LEROY — Two weeks ago, Pine River quarterback Luke Hill brought his football team to Reed City with a 6-2 record.

Two weeks later, the season has ended for the Bucks at 6-4.

They also lost to Reed City 46-0 and 28-14 in the playoffs last week to McBain.

“It wasn’t quite what we wanted,” he said after the Reed City loss. “We were going to try to throw the ball a lot. We didn’t quite get what we wanted. With the wind blowing as hard as it was, we couldn’t take as many long shots as we wanted.”

Hill will report to basketball practice to Pine River on Monday.

But it will be awhile before Hill forgets an impressive six-win season. The Bucks were 1-8 last year.

“Everybody did their job,” he said. “Everyone bought into the idea of what our game plans was.”

Hill has played quarterback since fourth grade. It was his second varsity season.

“I improved a lot,” he said. “We’re a veer option offense. You have to know where to go with the ball. Everybody has to do their part. If everyone buys in, we should do fine.”
