Pine River players receive honors

LEROY – Three Pine River football players have earned first-team all-Highland Conference honors this season.

Devin Ruppert, Ethan Whitley and Dakota Wieczorek earned first-team honors for the Bucks.

James Harvey and Maverick Martin were on the honorable mention list.

All five are seniors.

Ruppert was an inside linebacker and offensive tackle for the Bucks.

“He led the team with 131 tackles and had 236 for his career which is a Pine River record,” said Pine River coach Chad Phillips.

Whitley is a tight end and linebacker for the Bucks.

“He was a good blocker and caught the ball well from his tight end position,” Phillips said. “We had to use him at running back for several games due to injuries. He finished with 11 catches for 161 yards and a touchdown. He also had 45 tackles on defense and was forced to play from the d-line to the secondary.”

Wieczorek had 109 carries for 390 yards and had 173 yards receiving, which was second on the team.

“When we could give him room to run, he could make some big plays,” Phillips said.

Martin played defensive tackle. and was second on the team in tackles with 52.

Harvey, led Pine River in receiving yardage with 181 yards from 11 catches and three touchdowns.
