Pine River players gain all-league honors

LEROY — Pine River has three players honored by the Highland Conference on the all-league team.

Kyla Johnson and Brittany Davis were on the first team while KayLee Goodman was on the honorable mention list.

Johnson, a second-year varsity player, is a junior and a captain this year. She had 207 kills, 211 digs, 33 blocks and 59 aces.

Davis “is a senior captain who improved tremendously throughout the season,” Pine River coach Jana Dennis said.

Davis had 189 kills, 49 aces and 41 blocks this season.

Goodman is a freshman, who had 138 kills, 168 digs, 38 aces and 21 blocks.

“All three girls were go-to girls that the team relied on to get the job done,” Dennis said.

The Bucks beat Manton 3-2 in the district semifinals to advance to the finals, but lost to McBain. Pine River had a 21-23-3 record.

Johnson had nine kills, 19 digs and five blocks in the win over Manton, which was among the season highlights. Davis had 12 kills and nine digs while Goodman had 19 digs and six kills.

“We never gave up even when the odds seemed great and eventually came out victorious,” Dennis said after the match. “This was definitely a team win.”
