LEROY — Pine River’s football team had nine players earn all-league honors from the Highland Conference in awards announced recently.

Trenton Holmes, Elijah Lewis, Bryan McCurry, Brock Nelson, Omar Aguilar, Lane Ruppert and Roger Barnett were on the first team and Brian Fauble and Brandon Rendel were on the honorable mention list.

Lewis is a senior running back and three-year starter, who had 774 yards on 119 carries, seven touchdowns and 115 yards on 11 receptions for one touchdown

Bryan McCurry is a senior two-way lineman and four-year varsity starter on the offensive Line, who had 35 tackles, two sacks, four tackles for losses, one safety and two fumble recoveries, including one for a 36-yard touchdown.

Holmes is a senior defensive end, who had 60 tackles, two sacks and three tackles for losses.

Shimel is a senior defensive back secondary leader and coverage caller, who had 45 tackles one interception, one caused fumble and two fumble recoveries.

Barnett, a senior linebacker, had 54 tackles, two tackles for losses and one interception.

Brock Nelson, a junior fullback, had 549 yards on 107 carries and seven touchdowns.

Aguilar had a strong overall season as a freshman.

Lewis “has been a huge asset to our team over the last three seasons,” Martin said. “He has great speed and teams always had to game plan for him.

“Bryan McCurry was a four-year starter for us on the offensive line and a leader for our line and defense. His experience and passion for the game will be missed.”
