Pine River pitcher enjoys her first season with Bucks

LEROY — Alexis Bennett was a solid addition on the mound for Pine River’s softball team this spring as a junior.

She’s working on her senior season already by playing for the Bucks Local Area Teams League summer team.

Bennett was among the top players for the Bucks. She transferred from Marion.

“It’s going good,” she said late in the regular season. “I like playing with these girls.”

A strength, Bennett said, has been “believing I can do it and have confidence my team will back me up,” she said.

She pitched a no-hitter against Marion, her former school.

“Against Evart, they only scored one run and had one hit,” Bennett said, adding that her fastball has been her best pitch.

Bennett hit two home runs and said her hitting started out OK. Late in the season, she was struggling.

“I need to work on my swing,” she said.

Bennett will do as much as she can during softball in the summer. But she also plays volleyball and softball.

Bennett and the Bucks will be playing Wednesday LAT League softball throughout the summer.
