Pine River pitcher eager to show her stuff on varsity level

LEROY — Dana Hill put in some solid innings for the Pine River Bucks this summer during the Local Area Teams (LAT) League and is looking to be a key contributor for the Bucks softball team next season.

Hill admitted she was disappointed recently in a loss to Reed City at Bristol Fields when she pitched four innings. The Bucks were 2-2 this summer against the Coyotes. But this particular night, Hill had her ups and downs.

“It wasn’t my night tonight,” Hill said.

But it’s been her summer.

“I’ve done OK,” she said. “I’m working on my snap. I do a fastball and a changeup.”

The Bucks graduated both pitchers from their 2014 team and coach Laura Mumby has had a chance during LAT League action to see what the newcomers to the varsity might be able to do.

“I’ve got to see what the other pitchers are doing and improve off of them,” Hill said.

She has also been working on her hitting with hopes of being a force for the Bucks next season.

“I’ve gotten one big hit,” she recalled, looking back at her summer performance.

Pine River has ended its summer season until next March when the preseason will begin.

“I think we’re going to be good,” Hill said. “We’ve been able to spend some time together.”
