Pine River outfielder focusing on her summer game
LEROY — Chelsey TerBurgh is banking on having a successful summer for the Pine River softball program.
A junior this upcoming school season, TerBurgh played centerfield for the Bucks. She recently completed her first varsity high school season.
“I wasn’t expecting too much but it was exciting to be moved up,” she said.
Slap-hitting was the biggest adjustment for TerBurgh.
“I never slap-hitted before, that was new to me this year,” she said. “I got the hang of it after awhile. I’m still working on it.”
Defensively, TerBurgh played centerfield for the Bucks during the spring season.
“I did all right,” she said. “I’m good at catching pop flies, I have speed and have a good arm too.”
TerBurgh is playing with the Bucks in the Local Area Teams (LAT) League and had some key plays in her team’s doubleheader split with Cadillac. She’s working on various aspects of her game.
Looking back, she called hitting for the first year on the varsity level “a challenge. Sometimes I’d get it. It took me awhile to judge things to get my steps down.”
Pine River will have LAT League games this Wednesday starting at 5 p.m.
