Pine River junior working hard at net for team
LEROY -- The Pine River volleyball team is in the second half of its season schedule and players like Paige Esiline are hoping to pick up the intensity in a major way as the Bucks bid to be performing at their best.
Esiline, a junior, noted that her team was missing three players, out with illness, in a 3-0 win over Evart recently.
“We started out slow but we ended up good,” she said.
Esiline is normally a middle hitter for the Bucks and is a first-year varsity player.
“After my first game, I started to get into the swing of it,” she said. “We have to work well together.”
Esiline has been taking pride in her blocking for the Bucks. Senior teammates have been helping her out immensely, she added.
“It’s taken a little while to get used to it,” she said. “I need to work on passing and hitting harder.”
Esiline likes the way the team is playing at the moment.
“We’re doing pretty good,” she said. “After starting off slow at the beginning of the season, we’ve gotten a lot better. We’re working well together and getting used to what each other does.”
Districts start the week of Oct. 29.
“We hope to come together as a team, communicate well and come to work as one,” Esiline said.
