LEROY — It was an enjoyable summer of softball that Taylor Warner hopes will mean a fun spring in 2015.

Warner will be a junior who saw a half-season of action on the Pine River softball team last spring.

“It was fun,” she said, adding that she played “sometimes short when Jenna (Johnson) couldn’t. Or I was second base or I just hit.”

Warner was satisfied with her spring performance, but has finished a busy schedule with the Pine River team in the Local Area Teams (LAT) League.

During the summer, Warner especially focused on shortstop and her fielding. The Bucks finished the summer schedule recently.

“I think we were really good as a team,” Warner said. “We all got along.”

Warner said she actually hit the ball better for the varsity during the spring compared to the summer. Timing is the key to having success at the high school level for softball, Warner noted. But there’s still plenty she wants to work on to get ready for next spring.

“It will be hitting and throwing,” she said. “I think we’re going to do really good next year. We’re closer (as a team).”

The Bucks were 2-2 against Reed City during the summer. They defeated the Coyotes to close out the 2014 spring season with a victory in the district semifinals.
