Pine River has 4 players on all-league basketball team

LEROY — Four Pine River boys basketball players were named to the all-CSAA boys basketball team announced recently.

They took a key role in helping the Bucks gain a share of the title with McBain.

Drawing honors were seniors Lincoln Erickson, Tyler Lewis and Devin Ruppert and junior Mitchell McDonald.

Erickson averaged 10 points and eight rebounds a game.

He became the emotional leader and the heart of our team early on,” said coach Brian Goodenow. “He was the perfect leader in words and actions. He was a positive leader. We gave him the Spirit of the Bucks award at our banquet. He embodied what we want the program to be about. He was an awesome leader.”

Lewis averaged 13.2 points per game and sank 82 triples. He was 50 percent on 3-points shots.

“Tyler got the opportunity to shine this year and ran with it,” Goodenow said. “He worked hard during the offseason and earned a starting spot at the start of the year and led us in scoring the entire season.”

Ruppert averaged 8.0 points. 5.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game.

“He’s such an emotional, spirited leader and does all those little things,” Goodenow said. “He’s one of our best rebounders and a great defensive player. He stepped up when he needed to and led us a few times (in scoring) when others were down some.”

McDonald had averages of 9.3 points. 5.2 rebounds. 7.0 assists and 2.3 steals a game.

“He’s the consumate floor leader,” Goodenow said “He took the reins of the team early on. He was willing to sacrifice scoring when necessary to be a facilitator. He loves that idea. He relished the role of setting up his teammates.”
