Pine River girls win two big meets
LAKE CITY — Pine River is getting ready for the Highland Conference track meet, which will be at Evart on May 22.
Pine River was at Lake City on Tuesday along with Evart in Highland Conference track meet action.
Final scores for boys were: Lake City 89.5, Pine River 73.5 and Evart 85.5, Pine River 76.5.
On the girls side, it was Pine River 85, Lake City 75 and Pine River 98.5, Evart 63.5.
Highlighting the Pine River boys were Elijah Lewis with first-place finishes in the 200, 400 and long jump. Lewis was second in the 100 (11.52). Hunter Moffit also took first in the shot (39-0).
On the girls side, Selma Barnett led the way taking first in the 800 (2:43.24), 1,600 (5;55.54), and 3,200 (13:33.8) and ran a leg of the winning 3,200 relay along with Abby Dennis, Grace Beebe and Kelsi Charles. Payton Fulmerhouser also had a strong night for Pine River in the distance races, and the team of Becca Horan, Kendra Montague, Beebe and Dennis won the meet vs. Lake City with their victory in the final race, the 1,600 meters (5:55.54). Esdeanna Koetje won the 100 hurdles (19.53).
“On a wonderful night for track, these ladies pulled off a terrific win with their last race efforts,” Pine River coach Eric Gebhard said.
For the Evart boys, Zolan Long won the high jump (5-4) and was second in the pole vault (11-0) at the same height cleared by his teammate and first-place finisher Richard Foster.
Evart won the 4x800 relay with Austin Hamilton, Nathan Woods, Tanner Ryan and Jaxon Todd (9:01.38). Woods won the 1,600-meters (5:00.56) and 3,200 meters (11:27.59). Hamilton won the 800 meters (2:12.49).
For the Evart girls, the foursome of Macey Wallace, McKenzie VanBuren, Angela Gibbins and Kaylee Ladd was first in the 4x100 relay (54.38). It was Gibbins, VanBuren, Kara Henry and Wallace in the 4x200 relay (1:54.19).
