LEROY — Pine River’s girls basketball team posted two more wins last week to improve its record to 15-3.

Pine River defeated Beal City 52-29 on Thursday with Molly Motzer collecting 17 points and eight rebounds plus four steals and three assists. Sarah Goodenow had 10 boards.

“In the first half of the game, we didn’t finish very well,” said Pine River coach Shawn Ruppert. “In the fourth quarter, we did a nice job.”

On Tuesday, Feb. 15, Pine River scored a 51-38 win over Gaylord. Motzer had 18 points, followed by Jamie Justin with 13 and Nelson with eight.

“We played well against Gaylord,” Ruppert said. “Gaylord won quite a few in a row. I was happy the way we played against them.”

Friday, the Bucks will host the Highland Conference’s first-place team McBain.

“We’re going to have to be stronger inside against them,” Ruppert said. “We didn’t match up well against them the last time.”

PINE RIVER BOYS

Pine River gained revenge in boys basketball over Evart with a 48-27 Highland conference win on Friday.

The Wildcats had beaten the Bucks at Evart earlier in the season.

“We played a lot better defense this time against them, and we were home, which helped us too,” said Pine River senior Austin Marine. “We play better at home.

Lincoln Erickson netted 14 points and six rebounds for Pine River. Marine had 12 points, 10 rebounds and five steals.

The Bucks, 8-8, lost to Lake City 62-56 on Feb. 15.

Pine River is home Thursday against Beal City.
