LEROY — Pine River’s girls basketball team had a big night on Monday in Highland Conference play with a 57-8 win over Marion.

The Bucks were up 19-2 after the first quarter, 34-2 at halftime and 42-6 after the third quarter. Pine River had a 15-2 scoring advantage in the final quarter.

Kierra Justin had 13 points and seven rebounds, KayLee Goodman had 12 points and four steals, Julie Justin had 14 points and Logan Powell had eight steals.

“A lot of players saw some playing time,” Pine River coach Shane Ruppert said. “It’s our fourth game in seven days so it was nice to rest some of our girls.”

Pine River, 13-2 overall and 8-2 in the league, is home against McBain on Thursday.

Pine River lost to Manton 48-29 on Friday at home.

“We had a tough night shooting,” Ruppert said. “We actually played well in the first quarter but missed a lot of lay-ups and free throws. Instead of being up by 10, we were tied at the end of the first quarter. We never did get it going. Manton did a good job of spreading us out once they got the lead. They were pretty athletic.”

Julie Justin was high scorer with eight points. Kierra Justin had seven points and 13 rebounds.

“Nobody shot well,” Ruppert said. “It was one of those nights when nobody was hitting.”
