Pine River girls take first place at Ogema Heights

LEROY — The Pine River track team was at Ogema Heights Friday night for the Falcon Invitational with the girls taking first and the boys finishing fourth.

The girls were paced by Logan Powell, who was first in the 100 meters and second in the 200 meters and was a part of the first place finishing 800-meter relay team that included Kenzie Ruppert, Anna Lindquist, and Shiloh Ruppert. Lindquist also finished first in the pole vault with an effort of nine feet, and second in the 400 meters.

Ruppert was second in the 300 hurdles and first in the 100 hurdles. Clara Umbreit led the throwers with a first-place finish in the discus and a third-place in the shot. Selma Barnett pulled in big points for the distance crew, taking first in the 1,600 run and second in the 3,200 run, and was a part of the first-place finishing 3,200 relay team, including Olivia Thompson, Kelsi Charles and Autumn Dutka.

Hunter Esline placed second in the high jump to lead the Pine River boys. Derek Hartline had a strong night, taking third in both the 200 and 400 meters.

“The night started off windy and a bit wet, but the kids really did well and pushed through it,” Pine River coach Eric Gebhard said. “We had a large number of PRs and it’s great momentum leading into regionals (this) week.”
