“We had a couple of surprises with kids on defense (during the summer) who could play some different positions that makes us a little more dynamic,” Pine River coach Laura Mumby said. “The kids wanted to play, were gung-ho and ready. The excitement that they had to be there was the most exciting thing for me.”

Almost all of the players involved during the summer program are expected to play softball next spring.

“We get started actually more around November,” Mumby said, referring to offseason work. “We do a lot of weekends and some hitting clinics and maybe get down to the Elite (softball league in Grand Rapids).”
