Pine River girls reflect on strong performances

LEROY ― Pine River’s girls track and field team had a strong season that  officially ended at the state final.

Alyssa Geer was among the strong distance runners for the Bucks in the 800, 1,600 and 3,200 meter runs this season. The 1,600 was her best event all season.

“It’s been the one I focused on the most,” said Geer, a sophomore, who said she’s been looking to get below a 6:20. Her best has been a 6:28.

She’s also a cross country runner for the Bucks.

“We’re a little short on girls, and there’s a lot of girls in a couple of events,” Geer said. “That’s made it a little tougher this year. I think overall we’ve had a good season.”

The Bucks, who were second in the regional recently, have been scoring points in the distances, Geer noted.

“There was an invitational where 13 teams were there and we were first place, and that was good,” Geer said. “My times haven’t improved but I’ve been steady.”

Geer continued to focus on chopping down her times as the end of the season approaches. Cross country season will start in mid-August but there’s still a few things to reflect on when it comes to the track season.

“We’re doing pretty well,” she said. “Everyone has a few things they’re pretty good at.”
