Pine River girls lose to McBain
LEROY — Pine River trailed 20-9 at halftime and lost a Highland Conference game with McBain on Friday 34-31. KayLee Goodman had 13 points and five rebounds while Logan Powell had 12 points and five boards and Anselma Barnett had seven rebounds.
“Overall our defense was pretty solid,” Pine River coach Brandon Bowman said. “They outscored us 12-2 in the second quarter. I thought our O struggled in that first half. We missed a lot of easy buckets.”
Pine River (3-4, 2-2) was home with Marion on Tuesday. The Bucks are at McBain Northern Michigan Christian on Thursday and home against Big Rapids Crossroads on Jan. 17.
Pine River boys
MCBAIN — Pine River’s boys team fell to 0-3 in the Highland Conference and 1-4 overall with a 65-32 loss to McBain on Thursday.
The Bucks will be at McBain Northern Michigan Christian on Friday and is at Clare on Tuesday.
Pine River had a makeup game on Jan. 2 at Beal City and lost 56-44.
Pine River jumped out to a 9-0 lead but Beal City came back with a 15-0 run of its own and never looked back. The Aggies led 28-16 at halftime. Sasha Huffman led the Bucks with 15 points. Lane Ruppert added nine points.
“We’re struggling to find our own identity as a team,” head coach Brian Goodenow said. “We need to find consistency on offense and defense.”
