Pine River girls host summer camp
LEROY — Between baseball and softball, it’s been a busy summer for Pine River coach Shawn Ruppert.
Last week, Ruppert and his staff put on a four-day youth camp for girls basketball players.
In the high school gym, there were about 30 to 35 participants. The campers were fourth through seventh grades. He also had workers from his own high school program including players up through next year’s seniors.
As in any youth camp, the main emphasis was on fundamentals. Attendance was about average compared to previous camps, Ruppert indicated.
During the camp, Ruppert has high school girls working on informal games in the middle school gym.
Coach Scott Benson’s boys team has also been active in camps in recent days at such locations as Hope College and Cadillac.
Ruppert is also coaching a summer Pine River baseball team that will be home on this Thursday for summer league action.
