Pine River girls fall to Lakeview

LAKEVIEW — Lakeview’s girls basketball team rallied in the fourth quarter to slip past Pine River 51-42 in girls basketball non-league action Monday night.

The Bucks led after the first three quarters 35-29. But Lakeview found the hot shooting touch in the final quarter to take the lead and pull away for the win.

“We’re shorthanded,”  Pine River coach Shawn Ruppert, who had eight players dress, said. “Kierra (Justin) has a bad ankle. KayLee (Goodman) is out.”

Kassy Nelson hit a three late in the game to cut the Lakeview lead to 45-38. Julie Justin scored off a steal and it was 45-40 Lakeview with 43.6 seconds to play. But time ran out on the Bucks who are 6-2 overall. Lakeview is 7-4.

“They’re a good team,” Ruppert said. “They shot the ball well. We should have stretched it out in the third, but we didn’t do it.”

Nelson scored 20 points, including three triples and had 10 points in the second quarter. She also had six steals and is now averaging 26.3 points a game.

Lakeview, in the fourth quarter, “shot the ball well,” Ruppert added.
