LEROY — Pine River didn’t get the victory it wanted in the Bucks’ final home game of the regular season.

The focus for the Bucks turned to Monday’s first-round district game against Lakeview at Beal City (see related story).

Makayla Ardis scored 22 points to lead Lake City (14-6, 9-3) over the Bucks (9-11, 5-7) 50-32 in Highland Conference action on Thursday.

The Trojans led 10-6 after the first quarter, 28-14 at halftime and 39-21 after the third quarter.

Logan Powell had a 3-pointer in the fourth quarter and the Trojans were up comfortably 44-30.

“I thought our defense was strong the first quarter,” Pine River coach Brandon Bowman said. “We kind of fell apart in the second quarter. They put up 18 points and that really hurt.”

Anselma Barnett and KayLee Goodman had 10 points apiece for Pine River.

“Our offense got a little stagnant. We looked a little sluggish.” Bowman said.

“We’ve been working against the zone We should have been a little more prepared. The third quarter they came out and stepped it up defensively. We had an up-and-down game unfortunately.”

“It was a rough game and physical,” Pine River junior guard Logan Powell said. “We just didn’t come ready to play. I think it was an emotional night being senior night.”
