Pine River girl produces goals on boys soccer team

LEROY — Anna Lindquist completed her sophomore season for the boys Pine River soccer team and was among the top players from the offensive side.

As of earlier this month, Lindquist had two goals to her credit including a score against Lakeview. She followed up on a ricochet shot that beat the Wildcat goalie.

Lindquist also scored against Houghton Lake a few days earlier.

“It was a cross that I hit in,” she said.

Lindquist also played last year but didn’t score. She’s playing as a forward mid this year, the same position as last season.

But scoring “feels pretty good,” Lindquist smiled.

The Bucks struggled for wins this season.

“We’re getting better,” Lindquist said. “We’re probably not like at peak potential.”

Lindquist said she’s playing better this season and getting more used to high school boys soccer. Pine River does not have enough girls for a spring program.

Her role was offense.

“I think I’m pretty fast,” she said, adding that she’s working to improve on “shooting from farther out and ball handling.”

Pine River’s season ended with a 2-1 loss to Forest Area in the district.

“We’re looking to play better and score more and not let any goals in,” Lindquist said late in the season.
