Pine River freshman reflects on solid season

LEROY — Olivia Thompson has had an intriguing freshman season for Pine River’s track team.

It will include an appearance in the Division 3 state finals at Comstock Park on May 30.

Anna Lindquist took second in the 400 run, while running the anchor leg of the 3,200 relay team that took second place, along with teammates Thompson, Autumn Dutka and Cheyanna Rizor (10:20.30).

He also has run the 4x400 relay, the 800 and 3,200 meters. Her 800 best time has been a 2:30.

“So far my two mile has been my best,” she said.

A key goal was achieved at the Pine River Invitational in early May.

“I beat Cheyanna Rizor which I’ve been waiting nine months to beat her,” Thompson said of her senior teammate. “I had never beaten her in a race. She’s a phenomenal runner. She inspires me to run hard. She pushed me all (cross country) season. Chey taught me how to run a good pace. The end of my race is definitely my weakest. It’s something I’ll have to develop and work on.”

Thompson was hoping to run a 12:40 by the end of the season in the 3,200 and wanted a 2:35 in her 800.

“I have to work hard and push myself,” she said. “I find cross country more challenging. There’s so many different girls. We’re all together. It’s easier to look at the girl in front of me and say ‘I’m going to pick her off.’”

It’s been a strong team season.

“We work hard and we push each other really good,” Thompson said.
