LEROY — Pine River is 3-0 overall and 1-0 in the Highland Conference following Friday’s 12-6 overtime league football victory against Evart.

It was 6-6 at halftime.

Elijah Lewis had a 34-yard run for Pine River to tie the game in the first half. Brock Nelson had a 10-yard run in overtime.

“It was a great win for our kids,” Pine River coach Terry Martin said. “We battled through some really tough situations to maintain the 6-6 tie. Our defense came up with two goal-line stands, which was huge for us. We had some untimely fumbles to overcome. A touchdown and another play that would have put us on the 10-yard line were both called back on penalties.”

Luke Hill passed eight times and had two completions for 51 yards.

He had 80 yards rushing. Lewis rushed for 84 yards. Nelson had 12 yards rushing.

Lewis caught two passes for 35 yards.

Defensively, Marcus Jurik had an interception and four tackles.

Pine River won the Wounded Warrior trophy.

The Bucks are home Friday against Beal City.

“They’re pretty good for an 0-3 team,” Martin said. “They’re very athletic and get off the ball well.”
