LEROY — Pine River lost twice at its home tournament on Saturday, to Manistee and Montabella, but it's still been a strong season for new faces like junior Maddie Marks.

Marks has been among the top hitters for the Bucks during the regular season.

"You're adjusting to faster pitchers," she said.

Defensively she's playing right field and has confidence in her fielding abilities.

There have been several highlights for the Bucks so far. "Probably our wins over Marion (last week)," Marks said, have been key highlights.

Hannah Hill has been playing first base for the Bucks and is also having a strong season.

"I've been playing OK, I just thinking we hit some rough games OK," Hill said. 'We hit a winning steak awhile ago. We're hitting the ball better."

This is Hill's second season on varsity and she's been showing improvement.

"I'm hitting the ball better," she said.

As a team "we just need to play together," Hill said.

Pine River has a home Highland Conference twinbill on Thursday against Beal City.
