Pine River falls to McBain NMC
LEROY — Pine River’s boys soccer team fell to 0-3 with a 7-2 loss to McBain Northern Michigan Christian on Wednesday, Aug. 27.
Colten Rawson scored both goals for the Bucks including the first one to give his team a 1-0 lead. The Comets led 4-1 at halftime and scored the first three goals of the second half but Rawson converted again.
Jager Haan had three goals for the Comets while Abner Vallecillo added two. Lucas Harris was goalkeeper for the Bucks.
“We were in too much of a hurry in the first half,” said Comets coach Dave VanHaitsma said. “Often times, we were trying to force the ball forward and kind of rush the action. I thought the second half was better on that. We showed greater patience the second half.”
Pine River coach Jenny Hoaglund acknowledged it was nice to get a quick 1-0 lead.
“There were signs of great things happening,” Hoaglund said. “They did all right. It is what it is. There’s lots of things we can work on.”
Rawson “is expected to be one of the leaders,” Hoaglund said. “There were more times than not that he was where he needed to be. I thought we did pretty well. He was playing offense quite a bit (Wednesday).”
Pine River lost previously to Buckley and Forest Area.
Pine River is home this Thursday against Big Rapids Crossroads Academy. The Bucks are at Mason County Central Friday and at Manistee Monday.
