Pine River falls to Manton

LEROY — Pine River fell to 3-3 overall and 1-3 in the Highland Conference with a 33-6 football loss at Manton on Friday.

“Friday’s game was full of frustration on our part,” Bucks coach Terry Martin said. “We had a couple untimely turnovers to begin the game and really struggled on defense.”

Mason Powell had a 4-yard touchdown run for the Bucks.

“At 3-3, our season hangs in the balance every time we take the field for the remainder of the season,” Martin said. “We need to put together a good performance on Friday.”

The Bucks are home Friday against league foe Evart in the Armed Services Game.

“Evart has lost a few tight conference games but also beat Beal City this season,” Martin said. “The conference is just so competitive that every week you have to play a great game in order to be in the running for a win.

“We have to do a better job on the line of scrimmage both offensively and defensively. We also need to do better in the turnover department.”

The focus on practice this week will be “improving ourselves,” Martin said. “We lack a lot of consistency right now and we are quickly running out of time. We have to get it right quickly.”

The Bucks will close out the regular season with nonleague games against Grand Rapids NorthPointe Christian and Berrien Springs.
