LEROY — Pine River and Evart are at the Montabella Class C boys district this week.

Action started on Monday with Montabella (11-9) facing Morley Stanwood (17-3) and Evart (3-17) playing Beal City (13-7). It’s also a doubleheader on Wednesday. Pine River (7-13), faces the Montabella-Morley Stanwood winner at 6 p.m. Lakeview (9-11) takes on the Evart-Beal City winner at 7:30 p.m.

“Every district tournament is very tough,” Pine River coach Brian Goodenow said. “With a ‘lose and you’re out’ setting, pressure is on every team to bring their best effort and execution to every game.

“Morley Stanwood, Beal City must be considered the favorites, as both had a highly successful regular season. Morley Stanwood has many quality wins over very good teams, and coach (Bob) Raven is one of the best in the state.

“Beal City was the third best in a very competitive Highland Conference, so they are battle tested and ready for the postseason.”

The finals are 7 p.m. on Friday.
