Pine River enjoys sweep over Reed City
BRISTOL — Pine River had Reed City’s number the last game of the spring season. Last week the Bucks did it again during the Local Area Team (LAT) League.
Pine River took a couple of games from Reed City, 9-2 and 23-2, in action on July 8.
In the first game, the winning pitcher was Kourtney Brock, who went four innings and allowed three hits and three walks, while striking out two. Nicole Brown went two innings and allowed one hit.
Morgann Kanouse had a triple for Pine River while Taylor Warner added two singles and an RBI, Carleigh Trowbridge had a single with two RBIs and Chelsey TerBurgh had a single and stolen base.
In the second game, Brown pitched one inning, allowing one hit and one walk. TerBurgh went two innings, striking out two and walking one.
“Our kids did a good job throwing strikes (Tuesday),” Pine River coach Laura Mumby said. “We got our sticks alive when we needed to. It was a good night.”
Trowbridge had two singles and five RBIs while Brown had a triple with two RBIs. Kanouse had a single with two RBIs, Dana Hill had a double and Hannah Hill had a single with an RBI.
For Reed City, Ally Yarger had a triple and double during the day. Pitchers for the Coyotes included Olivia Lawson, Maddie Morgan and Yarger during the twinbill.
Reed City coach Roger Steig noted that regular varsity players for the Coyotes were gone for this doubleheader including Lindsey Greer and Skiler Brigham, who were at Grand Rapids Community College for a tryout.
Steig’s daughter, Amanda, played two seasons at GRCC and is now at Cleary College in Howell. She has been umpiring LAT League games.
