Pine River defenseman helping team with scoring

LEROY — Cole Gingrich has been providing some offense for the Pine River Bucks this fall and hopes to keep it up in the remaining weeks of the season.

Gingrich, a junior defenseman, scored two goals against Clare in a Pine River loss recently.

“Lot of teamwork and passing does quite a bit of it,” said Gingrich who has had three goals this season.

Gingrich is usually able to move around the field effectively.

“I’m quick,” he said. “I have OK ball handling.”

The team is looking for its first win.

“We’re making progress,” Gingrich said. “The team is working good.”

The Bucks need to keep the ball moving, he added.

“I think I’ve improved from a year ago from moving the ball up to no one, to looking up and passing the ball to someone on offense,” Gingrich said.

He scored one goal last season. Right now, he’s hoping to help the team enjoy a successful ending to the season.

The Bucks are in the districts the week of Oct. 14.

“We need more communication and better ballhandling,” he said.
