LEROY — It was like old times when the Pine River Bucks had a summer baseball game last Thursday against the Reed City Coyotes.

A lot of summer teams will have new faces, especially with the players coming up from the junior varsity team in 2014. But the Bucks had many veteran players from their varsity team that won a district title this past spring.

Pine River defeated Reed City in the district semifinals. The Bucks lost in the regional semifinals to Morley Stanwood.

The Coyotes played a nine-inning game and came out with a 12-2 victory with solid hitting from many players. Greg Park, one of the team’s top pitchers from the spring, was at the game but played another position. Pitchers in this game included Tony Moore and Grant Ruppert for three innings apiece. Lucas Harris and Mason Powell pitched in the later innings.

Coach Shawn Ruppert noted that all his players hit the ball decently, including Alex Knapp, Grant Ruppert and Powell. Matt Goodenow had a double and Moore had a couple of hits with a double. Grant Ruppert was among the hurlers that had a strong outing, the Bucks coach added.

“I had mostly returnees,” Shawn Ruppert said.

The Bucks have three games on their summer schedule with a couple of practices. Ruppert pointed out that many of his players are in other sports that are busy during the summer months with various workouts.

The Bucks are also scheduled to play at Evart Wednesday of this week and at Frankfort July 9.
