Pine River defeats Reed City in summer baseball game

LEROY — Like other baseball programs, Pine River is working on giving players some action during summer games.

Coach Shawn Ruppert had his Bucks team at Reed City Sunday for a 9-3 win.

Leading hitters for the Bucks include Raden Holmes, Luke Hill, Lane Ruppert, Andrew Park and Tanner Shimmell.

Hill pitched for three innings while Holmes went the next three. Pine River used six different pitchers overall, for what was a single nine-inning game at the Reed City field.

It was the first actual ballgame for his summer team, Ruppert said.

“We’ve practiced a couple of times,” he said. “We had to move our games to late in the summer because of basketball.”

Several of the baseball players for both schools are in other sports.

“I was happy with how they played,” Ruppert said. “We have quite a few young guys.”

Both teams had players that were key to last season’s teams and will be critical for the 2017 season. Logan Straub, Hunter Morrison and Brandon Wirth were among the players for Reed City at the game.

Pine River also will be at Evart for doubleheader action this Thursday.
