Pine River defeats Evart in final home match

LEROY — Pine River’s volleyball team was 2-1 in duals to close out the regular season last week and posted a 3-0 victory in the home finale against Evart on Oct. 27.

The Bucks play Wednesday at Evart in a district semifinal game.

Pine River traveled to Hesperia and participated in a Volley Against Violence event last Thursday. The Bucks lost to Hesperia 25-19, 25-10, and beat Fruitport Calvary Christian 25-23,27-25.

For Pine River, Kyla Johnson had 13 kills and 12 digs; KayLee Goodman had nine kills and 21 digs; Julie Justin added 19 digs and Tailor Charles contributed 15 digs.

Kourtney Brock added 31 assists and nine digs.

“We had some ups and downs and are hoping that we can unite as one for our conference tourney and for districts,” Pine River coach Jana Dennis said. “We have some goals we set for ourselves late in the season. We’re working on those.”

Pine River finished its home season on Oct. 27 with a 25-16, 25-14, 25-15 win over Evart.

For the Bucks, Johnson had eight kills, Justin added four kills and 10 digs and Kourtney Brock had 21 assists while subbing for Logan Powell, who sustained an ankle injury.

“The girls did a good job adjusting to a last minute setter change,” Dennis said. “Kourtney stepped up and worked hard to get our hitters just the right sets. All members of the bench stepped up and played well. The seniors had a great senior night with a lot of community support.”
