LEROY — Pine River (6-5, 4-4) lost 72-52 to Manton (11-2, 7-2) on Friday in a game which featured inductees into the school’s athletic Hall of Fame.

“They got off to a really hot start,” Pine River coach Brian Goodenow said. ‘“They had us down 14-2 early on. It was 18-7 at the end of the first quarter. We were in a big hole early. We were never really able to get it under 10 points. They hit 3-pointer in the game and we had none. That was a big difference in the game.

“We didn’t have a whole lot of balance. Mason had 21 points. We just did not find a whole lot of scoring opportunities out of that.”

Pine River was at Beal City on Jan. 31 and lost 71-61.

“Beal City had 12 3-pointers in that game against us,” Goodenow said. “We seem to bring out the best in everyone else’s 3-point shooting. We fell behind early and got it down to six points a couple of times in the fourth quarter but just didn’t get over the hump.”

Hunter Esiline had 27 points and 10 rebounds for Pine River.

Pine River is home with undefeated McBain on Friday in conference action.
