EVART — Pine River led 30-27 at halftime and went on to win a boys basketball Highland Conference game on Friday against Evart 58-53.

Elijah Lewis had 17 points, Trenton Holmes had 13 points and 10 rebounds and Sasha Huffman and Lane Ruppert had 10 points apiece for Pine River.

“It was a back and forth game,” Evart coach Kris Morgan said. “They would jump out by 10 then we would cut it to 2 or 3. We just couldn’t get over the hump. It’s been like that a few times this year for us. Pine River played well and Lewis hit some big threes. We just didn’t execute very well. We missed a lot of easy layups and putbacks. Hopefully, we will continue to work and get healthy, so we can get them the next time around.”

Karsten Allen had 23 points and 10 rebounds for Evart. Cam Martin had eight assists. Nick Sylvester had 11 points and seven rebounds. Billy Conklin had 10 points, six rebounds and four steals.

Pine River is 2-8 and 1-5. Evart is 2-8 and 0-6.
