LEROY – Paula Justin is back for her third year as Pine River girls basketball coach and the Bucks make their debut on Tuesday against Chippewa Hills at home.

Seniors Hailey Wanstead and Avery Sumpter and juniors Madi Sparks, Amanda Hill, and Lynn Belvin are all returning.

“We have some solid returning players and have some talented young players on the roster and are hoping for them to gel together and get some wins,” Justin said. “We have experience and they share the ball well.”

Defense and communication are aspects the Bucks need to focus on to be a factor in the Highland Conference.

“We have a tough conference,” Peterson said.

Boys basketball players for the Bucks and coach Brian Goodenow are Tanner Prosch, Lukas Fisher, Dante Fauble, DJ Langworthy, Austin McKinley, Tim Gum, Austin Dean, Evan Esiline, Isaiah Dennis and Cole Crawford.

The season starts at Morley Stanwood on Dec. 7. The first league game is Dec. 14 at Lake City. The first home game is Dec. 16 with Evart. The final game before the holiday for the Bucks is Dec. 20 at Chippewa Hills.
