LEROY — Pine River’s baseball team improved to 27-3 with 9-1 and 11-3 Highland Conference victories over Evart on Friday.

Pine River fans recognized coach Shawn Ruppert in between games for having passed the 500-win mark this season.

Greg Park was the winning pitcher in the first game, striking out seven, walking two and allowing one hit. Mason Powell had four hits including two triples and a double. Mitchell McDonald had three hits and three RBIs.

Tony Moore was the winning pitcher in the second game.

McDonald had four hits and two RBIs, Moore, Park, Tyler Wing and Marcus Washington had two hits apiece. Park and Washington had three RBIs apiece.

“We hit the ball OK,” Ruppert said. “We should have ended the second game before seven innings, but we let them get a couple there. But they did hit the ball and deserved it. I’m happy the way we hit the ball.”

Evart’s Lane Nadig was losing pitcher the first game and Andrew Bengry in the second.

“We didn’t play too bad, really, despite the score,” Evart coach Josh Johnson said. “In the first game, I felt we made most of the plays. We didn’t beat ourselves. That’s what we do a lot of.”

Trevin Ladd, Cody Pritchard and Nolan VanOrder had hits in the first game. Noah Drake, Chris Imhoff and Adam Zinger had singles in the second game.

Evart fell to 5-17.

Pine River is at Kalkaska, while Evart is at Central Montcalm on Wednesday. In Saturday district action, Pine River is at Manistee and Evart is at Beal City.
