Pine River baseball team starts out 0-2

LEROY — Pine River’s baseball team opened its season with two losses last week.

The Bucks fell 7-4 at Grant on Wednesday. Marcus Washington had a double while Grant Ruppert and Dylan Loop both had a single and RBI. Only one game was played because of the weather

The previous Tuesday (March 29), the Bucks lost 9-8 to Big Rapids Crossroads Charter Academy. Mason Powell had a home run, double and five RBI, Tristen Nelson had two doubles and Washington had two hits. Matt Stone was the losing pitcher.

“Because we had a doubleheader (at Grant Wednesday), we did things differently (against Crossroads) and pitched a lot of guys,” Pine River coach Shawn Ruppert said. “Against Grant, we played to win it and they beat us. We’re a little shorthanded right now. We have a couple of guys with injuries and one on vacation.”

Pine River plays at home next Tuesday against Lake City, a Highland Conference member. But those games will be nonconference, Ruppert said.

The Pine River coach was planing on having practices this week during spring break.
